Sanderson TX to Comstock TX
Sunday April 3rd
Today started right off with strong head winds as promised. Some interesting landforms.
A few wild sheep / or maybe goats. They were grazing alongside the road when I came upon them, but wouldn't respond to my attempt to call them back. So to sum up todays 81.5 mile ride with a constant 20-25 mph head wind = brutal. A new hardest ride ever. Why are we getting so many windy SE blowing days? This probably won’t change until we head North in a few days. Average speed today was 11.9 mph, 2,617 feet of climbing and 3,938 calories burned. Stayed tonight in Seminole State Park, an extremely desolate campground and the wind continued to blow all night long. I opened the flap to my tent and my luggage was covered with sand, no point shaking it off, it came back immediately. There were giant pricker bushes growing all over our campground, the prickers were penetrating the soles of my camp Crocs. At dinner it was necessary to keep one hand on your dinner plate or it was sailing off into the desert. This was the HARDEST riding and camping day so far, calling for a second beer at happy hour. By morning the wind had subsided some, and we were off to Bracketville.
Just catching up. Sounds to me like the trip from Trois Rivieres to Quebec City. But you did not get in after dark in the rain🙂
ReplyDeleteRegarding Goat Heads: do not bring any home!!!!
