La Grange TX to Navasota TX

 Monday April 11th

Around 1AM many of us awoke to thunder and lightning, followed by rain showers on and off for several hours.  At 5:30 AM, still sprinkling a bit.  Weather forecast promised good things and sure enough we left at 7:45 to no more rain.  Future forecasts are showing that our dry cross country trek will soon be facing rain events.   Not bad to have gone well over half way across the country without a drop of rain during biking times.

A few long horn cattle relaxing in the sun.  Some of them do appear to enjoy posing for the tourists.

It clouded up as the afternoon progressed, but it didn’t discourage the flower viewing.

The original, Baylor University.  Our lunch stop, eating the sandwiches that we made at breakfast.

An appealing setting, certainly for those cattle. We saw numerous substantial homes that were abandoned, weeds growing instead of lawns.  Maybe they were the result of bad oil investments?
So todays ride was 69.4 miles at an average 13.8 mph, climbing 2,357 feet and 2,591 calories burned.  High winds for most of the day, frequently as tailwinds, so although blustery, arrived at end point at 1:30. We are staying on the Brazos river in a very basic campsite.  The only amenity appears to be a see saw/teeter totter which is free to use for guests. Tomorrow is a rest day!
